But...How Will I Know If I'm Ready?
How will I know if I'm ready? Can you relate to this question? I know I sure can! Through my years as a photographer, I have asked myself this same question so many times. At times I didn't "feel" like I was ready, so it stopped me in my tracks. Other times I ignored the "feeling" and jumped with fear, but still jumped. It wasn't until I heard my mentor say something that hit home.
"Ready is not a feeling. It’s a decision. Were you ready when you started your business? No, you did it scared. Because you made the “decision” to do it”.
I want to live a VIBRANT LIFE! Filled with both adventure and challenge, I want to spread kindness like a wildfire and help others by sharing my little knowledge nuggets that will help you achieve your goals.
I know for myself; I couldn't have accomplished any of the things I have accomplished while standing in my own damn way from fear! So, what did I do you ask,
I frickin jumped, a little in fear...and it landed me here, with you...
Most likely asking yourself, "How will I know if I'm ready"?...You're here, so you must be. Jump!
Let's do this thang!
A Little Info About Me
Me, “Hell’s yeah! I have a camera!” ...also me, “Now What?”
When I got my first camera, 19 years ago, a Canon Rebel (35mm film, not digital) with a kit lens…I remember feeling ecstatic about earning money doing something I am passionate about!
That feeling very soon turned into frustration and fear as I realized I didn’t know the first thing about using my camera let alone running a photography business. Over the years, my dream of being a full-time professional photographer was one of the biggest roller coaster rides of my life...
Fast forward to 2019 I was working as a Project Manager tossing the idea around of quitting my job and starting my photography business full-time...but trying to juggle my high demand job, my kids, three different households and a new relationship seemed impossible to add anything new to the mix.
Then the pandemic hit, and like a lot of other people I was laid off from my job. I immediately seized this opportunity and reached out to past clients to help me build my dream.
I have a very faithful following whom I appreciate immensely...so, with the help of them, the unending support of my family, PLUS A TON of determination, here I am today...
Humbly hustling my arse off!
SIDE BAR
As I am pivoting into this new journey of Education for Photographers, I have a few disclaimers I should mention...
- I'm not good with fluffy talk, my courses will be quick, straightforward and packed with a lot of useful and actionable information.
- I am an open book. I have a shit ton of knowledge that I have soaked up over 15 years that is screaming to be shared. Please don't be afraid to ask me anything. If I don't know the answer, I will find it.
- I'm coming at this from an authentic angle. That's the most professional way I know how to say: "I'm going to be me, and most likely will spend a lot of time off script".
- I don't want to wait to share my knowledge until I feel I am a "polished, professional educator" I want to share my ideas now (and believe me, I have a LOT to share!).
- I'm going to be me and flow with an idea, even if it's thought of "on-the-spot" because I've never been one for rigidity or the strictness that comes from sticking to a perfect, pre-determined script.
- I'm going to be me when I talk, when I write, when I interact. I do this in my approach to my photography business and I plan to continue that approach during this part of the journey!
- I value "polished" and in many ways, I'm incredibly polished! By experience, my lessons learned, by customer feedback, but my polish speaks for itself when I look at my photography RESULTS, which is exactly what I want to share with you!
- I don't plan to spend time finding the perfect, technical descriptions to explain something, or on holding back my personality for sole purpose of demonstrating "professionalism". Don't get me wrong, I don't plan to be inappropriate or over-the-top, I just plan to be....me.
